Some songs start with a riff, others with lyrics … but “My Favorite Mistake” began in a garage, with Johan Lotigiers scatting his idea on his phone-jazzy, rhythmic and with the unique reverb of concrete. The first demos even started with a loop of his scat song, which gave a wonderful bluesy vibe. “Prima, Louis!” shouted guitarist Geert Fieuw spontaneously-and thus an inside joke was born, a nod to Louis Prima and The Jungle Book.
From that playful beginning grew the catchy phrase: “Out of all the mistakes that I used to make, you are my favorite mistake. ‘With a driving rhythm section, a fat groove, a subtle ’More Cowbell” hint and a Hammond providing extra fire, it became a Classic Rock track with a funky Latin feel. A song in which the born entertainer Johan can fully indulge himself-BTL at its best.
